The Entrance Arch was constructed of steel with fibreglass resin (GRP) cladding, hand painted to meet the stringent requirements of the Ocean Park design team.
The art nouveau details extended throughout the Skyfair area and included the signature naturalistic treatment to walls and columns.
The seahorses and other figures began as models hand-sculpted clay. The models were then used to make the moulds for the fibreglass resin. The design not only requires attention to how the figure looks to the eye, but also how to invisibly secure it to the structure to withstand visitors and the elements..
This pair of fibreglass (GRP) dolphins were hand-sculpted and hand-painted and sat on either side of the Ocean Park Temporary Entrance. As difficult as they were to execute artistically, the real challenge was to come up with the wind-loading calculations required by the Hong Kong Buildings Department.
